1 more month til i reach the second major milestone in my life
a new stage of life
new responsibilites, a new perspective on life
someone special in my life too?.i'm stil praying and waiting on God to show me
independance from parents , yet not wanting to totally let go from the safety they provide...
quite scary a thought at first to turn 21=)
but i'm gonna embrace it
trust that God will lead me through the way

these words from the corrine may song indeed was so apt
today as i was heading back to st cat's after my run
the sun was setting and skies were an azure of red
so marvelous the hues of red that painted across the sky
i noticed something so awesome, so marvelous
the red hues had somehow aligned themselves to form a cross,
a cross on a hill
and at that very moment, i felt the Lord's presense as i gazed upon the cross
the song' on a hill faraway, stood an old wounded cross' made its way upon my lips
and for that brief moment, it seemed as though time haf stipped
and it was just God, his Realness
just then , i remembered that the day before
i had prayed for a sign from God
to reveal to me His purposes for me
and for my family here in Perth
if they were to come down and migate or so..
and this was a prayer tt i have been prayin for
just today
He showed me a sign and it was such an indescrible moment of awe and amazement
as i gazed upon the cross in the sky
i could feel the warmness and sense of comfort
my intial homesickness and worries just seemed to float away
and all the weight of my burdens that i want to lay before the cross today

here i am, my Lord
make, mould and use me
transform me into what You want me to be....
i'm ready for this season of restoration and of renewal

freemantle is a nice place to visit, but abit too touristy i guess, prices are...as usual exhorbitant...and well..its filled with tourists~ the consequences of crass commercialisation is inevitably sky high prices and 'made-in-china' products....haha so much for being 'purely australian' - as one of the souvenier shops was named.
even the so called Australian made boomerangs have the made in china logo~ what is not made in china these days?
which brings me to a funny happening today--- Nicole was telling me at how she was poking abit of fun at her friend ( who was the flag bearer for this year's NDP 08) whether he was proud of carrying the S'pore flag ( which incidentally enough was..you guessed it..made in China)
and to think some pple still think that S'pore is part of China!
(side note: some of the ex-TJ pple were Guard of Honour at the NDP ...Ain was just telling me about it! congrats guys!)

now, watching NDP in perth is different from watching it in Spore....although you are with a bunch of other S'poreans.
the atmosphere is not the same...at all
the spore songs conjured up a sense of nostalgia
i admit it.
i miss singapore
save for the humid, hot weather
( perth's weather is nicee and cool!)
i miss my family and friends---skyping or msning is obviously not the same
funny thing how you can be so ' near' (via webcam) yet so far
im coming back in 3 months!

headed down to freemantle with the st cat's girls
went to free-O markets to sight see ( nothing much worth buying, except the superby scrumptious fruits)
strawberries are unbelievably sweet here, and MUCH cheaper too!

sunday, headed down to FCC down near murdorch uni,
service was really good and I felt the message speak to me
it was about missions
a whole new perspective to seeing the Great commission
deep inside of me i felt a burden to serve in this ministry,
will continue to pray and see how God leads me
( i took notes during sermon so will share more about Sr. Ps Benny's msg soon!)
we saw a video of the missions trip to Cambodia tt happened begining of the year
i was touched and amazed by the Lord's work there
the hearts of the FCC people to serve God
blessing those in need with His love
FCC is a church where i feel that i can grow in,
with strong discipleship ministry and missions-mindedness
' to multiply strong discipleship cell-churches...committed to loving God passionately..love people practically' ==from a part of FCC's vision statement
i'm excited to grow in God and in His love , in this church=)
looking around for a cell to join now too
God is good and i thank Him for blessing me with people who have helped me through this transition peroid.

It has been a really busy week here at UWA, settling of the admin things especially the credit transfer.
boy, they do take reallyyyyyyyy long to get things done around here..like 2 weeks just to process my credit transfer from NUS! well patience is the key i guess when stayin in australia,so i just got to get used to it all.
been planning to take two psych units,one stats, one lingustics...what's really intersting is the lingustics module,about language as a cognitive system.we study abt how language develops from infants onwards and the processes....bad thing is that it can get quite technical, with all the linguistic terms like morphemes, phonology etc etc.
oh well, i guess it will help for me since im particuarly interested in child pscyhology.
something tat i have to work hard for and put my best effort in=)

back at st cat's , i'm really blessed to have meet a group of good girlfriends -both sporeans and malaysians that i have been hanging around with- movie nights , dinner together, tuesday waffles at gelare and even bubble tea has been the highlight of my social life this week.
it's really comforting to feel welcomed by them and i thank God for blessing me with such nice friends here at st cat's.
well, for the locals, its quite another story cos i feel tat i really havent been able to connect with them on the same level.i mean, they are friendly and all ,but i guess i find it hard to have things to talk in common. nevertheless, i will continue to try and make more local friends too so yupp hope things go well in the coming week.
oh and i've been doing something quite exciting( for me at least) - i have been exploring around my suburb of nedlands , to subiaco , claremont, dalkeith, shenton park, kings park and perth city-with just my trusty map and bus timetable( trust me, its wayyyy more complicated than SBS at home, and much less frequent too) and my geography-inspired keen skills in map reading
i really like exploring...of course i do it only in the broad day light and with at least one friend( when i can find one as enthu to do it as me)
ohh and walking along swan river to perth city was really nice.

i miss my family and friends back in spore mostly , been skyping and emailing mum and dad which is good.
really, you would not treasure something until you dont have it.
previously in spore, i guess i had people to help me do things, but here everything is on your own
haha even when i got lost one day, just have to ask around and find your way
no wayy can just hail a cab here..its wayyyy too expensive
anyways yea so ive been learning to do alot of household stuff, chores and all
cleaning, cooking , washing, ironing etc etc

and right now, i would say im more prepared for it than i would have been if i remained in spore.
God always has a plan , and in this case i guess His purpose for me in perth is being revealed day to day=)
been praying too for his direction as to which church He wants me to be,
right now FCC seems to be the one i feel most called too
so yea i hope He will lead me there=)

it was a good day of fellowship today.
met up with my good friend dennis and his gf sarah,
went to his house just after walshpool to catch up and all.
made the most delicious savoury pancakes ever...so grandly called
" Okonomiyaki" which means "whatever you like, grilled in Japanese"
here is the yummy recipe if any of you would like to try it.

OKONOMIYAKI
pancake Base:
1 cup flour
3/4 cup water
1 egg
1/8-1/4 of a cabbage

note: the ratio of flour to water is around 3:4

Toppings (cooked)
any of the below - can use any leftovers!
Chicken
Roast pork or beef
Squid, Octopus,
other seafood
Corn
Mushrooms
Onion

basically, whatever tickes your tastebuds , you can throw it in!
for the 3 of us, we put in squid( marinated in seafood sauce) , canned tuna (apparently John West brand has the best tuna in aussie) ,cheese ( light variety works well too) and even fresh spinach ( which is super ex in spore).

so yup , the following shows the process and the final outcome!

Step 1:
So firstly grab that cabbage and chop it up finely. Better to have too much than too little because it shrinks a little as it cooks, and it's mega cheap anyway. Get out as much of the white stem parts as you can.

Step 2:
Now break an egg into a large bowl and pour in the water, and the flour.

Step 3:
Then beat with a whisk until smooth.

Step 4:
Now add some of the finely chopped cabbage and mix as best you can.

Step 5:
Heat up your skillet, electric frypan, grill, whatever you're going to use . Preferably use something that's got teflon ( non-stick).

Step 6:
Now prepare your toppings. Just chop it all up good.

Step 7:
Pour the desired amount of pancake base into the frypan with some oil (canola is healthy!)

Step 8:
Arrange the cooked toppings nicelyon top of the now cooking pancake base .

Step 9:
Pour some more the pancake base on top, then flip it over when the bottom becomes a nice golden brown.Cook the otherside til golden brown too!

Step 10:
Transfer it out onto a plate and cover liberally with any sauce you fancy-Dennis recommended good old mayonaise or terriyaki sauce ( Kikkoman is the best brand).

Step 12:
Cut, serve and savour! Bon apetit =)

So! this is how ours turned out to be..lol thanks sarah and dennis for showing me this great reciepe, guarenteened to be a budget saver and for the ' i have nothing in my fridge but leftovers' days!
haha i sound pretty funny like im trying to sell this OKONOMIYAKI pancake.oh well!
hahhahhaa at least i learnt something new!

my first church service in perth,
went to south city church down in melville
worship was fantastic, songs were familiar and the band was played really well.
the song that stood out the most was aptly enough-last years youth camp song

about the cost of taking up the cross and following God.

i guess in my chrisitan faith the past few months, i havent exactly been faithful and growing in God. no time, having other things to do were some of the excuses that i gave to not do my QT or even pray daily.
but I realised that God needs people who are totally committed to him- who have a new life and identity in Christ.

a man after HIS ( God's) heart
not after the pursuits of his own.

in today's message, i think i began to realise, that puttin me here in Perth is sort of like God's challenge to me, to grow more in Him and to really bear the full cost of following Him.
all the while, my plans of becoming a psychologist, studying up to pHD and all, i guess i didnt ask God whether it was in line with His purpose for me.
its really hard to give up what my heart desires for so much and surrender it all to God
but its the faith that I must have in His plan for my life.
to keep my eyes focused on the heavenward goal
as the late preacher A.W.Tozer said- to have eternity stamped on my eyeballs
an eternal perspective
so no matter where i am, to remember that
'life on earth is merely a preperation for life above' -from the purpose driven life (Rick warren)

so this is my prayer for today and the challenge that i would want to take up
on this new journey of life
to take up the cross and follow Him.

landed in perth on a wintry wednesday morning.
first time travelling by myself..wasn't as bad as i thought.
really dont look forward to plane journeys-oh well
anyways got picked up at the airport by david and estelle,
the car journey felt like the start of something new
a new life in perth, a new chapter in my life
new found independance.

back on the plane was reading the journal that the cg gave to me,
it was really nice and the words really meant alot to me.
so thanks nette, marianne, jeff , bu and shawn for the wonderful journal, will treasure it lots.

doing my qt that night, i was reminded that i have to remain really grounded even though im in this new place..with such a different culture and set of friends--grounded in God and in His word.
its not gg to be easy i know , but i pray that i will stay true to my faith always.

i've been pretty busy these days, settling stuff before i leave for perth to study psych at uwa.
lots of admin work to do and importand documents to get out before i leave. its a good time for me to learn some lifeskills and more independance, though i must admit i am kinda scared.going to perth on the flight alone. thankfully, i do have friends there, estelle, david, dennis ... so yup i believe its going to be alright.
the past two weeks i've been meeting up with friends, who incidentally also are going to australia to study- my pri school best friend charl going to uni melb and pri sch good friend going to brisbane-sent them off at the airport too.
can't help but think how will i feel when its my turn to leave.
it's really not easy leaving my family and friends here in spore, definitely going to miss all of them.

to mum and dad, thanks for sending me over to study, i appreciate all that you have done for me and i will study hard=)
to jiejie, thanks for helping me and teaching me all the stuff u had, appreciate it all =)

today was the end of my mid terms..wow..a relief..but then again, its the start of final terms
i still need to focus but my mind seems to be wondering,basically because of one thing
that i've been waiting for an answer for- whether should I transfer my degree to australia's university of western australia ( uwa) from nus ..
the psychology department is more established there and they do offer better job prospects as well as furthur studies, like tt i can graduate with a bachelor of psychology instead of just a major in psych..def it would provide more in-depth studies...
there have been doors opening up there, like when i talked to dennis about church there, life there and studying there, he did say that it was much more easy going, easier to do well there..haha i mean who doesnt want a + lol...while in nus i feel like im quite..well..in one word..mediocre..just ordinary and average.sometimes when i try my best, and my best isnt good enough.well i know i shld care all about grades but that's just part of it i guess...well sometimes i just feel that a need for something more, to be more recognized for my hard work but at nus ..its not the case..i'm honestly scared and try as i might not to compare myself to others, its hard not to do so..singapore is just so competitive and acheivement orientated it really drives me crazy sometimes..i'm not a kind of person who can thrive under stress..honestly.
i've been communicating with the admin staff there at uwa and they did say that i can apply to transfer my degree, and also i found out that i would have guarenteed entry into the course with my a level results..i do admit that uwa is not as high as nus in the world universities ranking..but well ..argh i dunno i dun wanna explain it all again.
im just quite tired of being in this rigourous and stressful lifestyle..honestly ive been a mugger way too long, i need some space to breath..really
but the things that are holding me back, the people, the ministries...namely church and sch friends, my dearly beloved cg ( church cg, friday cg, parents cg!) and of course misisons ministry....well ive been praying and i have told my cg abt it already..well the same thing has been saying is that
-To pray abt it and see where God leads
well, i want to say whereever you lead i will follow, but right now im still struggling to give up total and full control to God, i know that He has a plan for me that i may not see, i know that He wants what is best for me , just a teensy weensy bit of control tt i guess i really need to let go off..Lord help me learn to really let go, even if its abit by bit, to let go and let God.
i'm just so scared tt what i envision my life to be like, to be a child psychologist, to be married with kids and all.. things tt i have quite been planning for may not be what God wants me to be, maybe he calls me to the missions field, maybe he calls me to be a teacher...i dunno but its hard to accept right now if the path tt i have been planning so hard for may not be what God wants..
then again , i may be thinkin too much into the future , instead of focusing on now
instead of studyin which is what im supposed to be doing.

wow wheeeee....my three crazy crazy proj plus two crazyy mid term are OVER!time for a well deserved break..haha when i handed in ss proj with gabs today ..i really felt a HUGe relief

..though my break is gonna be for only a few days..im gonna have FUN..HAHA yayness..

looking back , God has really been good, giving me strength and carrying me through it all.

highlight: im joining back to vcf, thurs' cg and IFG! yay im really glad to come back esp after such a long time away, looking forward to grow in His word and for fellowship with other brothers and sisters in christ=)

there is something though that has kinda been on my mind

haha i read joshua harris's book-i kissed dating goodbye- really taught me some good values tt i can follow like ' don't keep thinking abt it that u miss the true joys of friendship' and to not get into anything serious if you are not willing to commit.

its been really hard trying to learn to let go and God take control of this aspect of my life,i guess its a sort of loneliness that i feel only well someone special can fill..but i know also then i need to learn to put my trust in him.He has a plan for me that i may not see know, but will eventually be revealed.in His time.patience..in His time, He made all things good=)

yupz so school has been..well...hectic and crazy...haha church has been alrite, missions trip is coming up that i need to prepare for, together with cheryl..sure am lookin forward to it

yupz and also here are my plans for the hols

1) learn diving-basic open water course

2) go gunung stong with lynnie=) odac trip! haha can't wait to trek up the waterfall~

3) going to italy/europe touring with my family

4) odac desaru cycling trip -2d1n

5) vcf camp..going to be an OGL! im so so excited to meet new freshies

6) psych soc camp...haha going to be facil..yayness!

7) hang out with church friends!

8) training for year end stand chard marathon? anyone interested to run/train with me?

haha yup im so not gg to study/work during the 3 months break!

hahah ohh and im gg to find out if i can perhaps transfer mydegree to UWA, maybe only cos my parents more or less migrating,but its all in God's hands=)

hmm...its strange how when i get into uni, esp here at FASS...I don't feel the motivation to study..at all, really...I know there isnt much time left and I have to do something..but yea there seems to be a lack of drive in me..i don't know why..hmm i really need to get back my studying spirit!
also, life in NUS has been pretty much the same....tests,tutorials,term papers, projects...argh and PGP feels so isolated..its like everyone is in a world of their own. spatial boundaries we set up with people next to us..u can be in a crowded lecture hall yet feel so empty inside.

God , please fill this void inside of me with your spirit, your grace that overflows...

i am thankful for church, for church friends who are there , uplifting a tired spirit...i'm thankful for ministry, i enjoy serving and see a purpose in it all, esp for now that im planning a missions trip with cheryl and uncle paul to blue mountains kelong...wow that is really called purposeful spending of time..

yea , i try and work so hard,just to get an average b+ ..so that i can get qualify for second upper honours, so that i can qualify for masters degree, so i can be accredited to be a practicing psychologist..wow, who ever said uni was easy must be joking
i can't wait to go SEP next year at UWA..and im super happy to have estelle going there at same time too..can't wait to be roomies! haha yeah=) there are things in school to look forward to

haha okayy,my test is in 10 hours..changing landscapes of singapore..haha geog is quite interesting here at nus. so is sociology, so is psychology,so NOT is social work.hahaha oh well have just to live with what modules i selected..yea life is a result of your choices u make..so yea live and let learn=)
i need to start disciplining myself to do QT, and be serious about my relationship with God..
its something that i cannot take for granted i know..but sometimes its really hard..i still must go on trying=)

i pray for patience and for God to show me the way, but i guess sometimes my lack of faith hinders it all.
i need to take a step back and ask God for direction i know.i need to believe and trust that He knows a better plan for me.

2 different worlds

school and church are really two different worlds

church =)
i enjoy and find meaning in doing church activities, in serving in ministry
i find comfort and peace in ministry service ...I know i am not judged
doing to the best of what i can , knowing its for His glory and kingdom
there is a greater sense of purpose in it all

school ( one particular aspect) = (
i don't find meaning, i don't find sense
doing it just for the sake of doing it, unmotivated,unclear
i know its a role and responsiblity i have to fulfill
but for who ? why should i bother when no one esle seems to
there is'nt any sense of purpose in it all

how do i reconcile this two worlds

sue knows she shld be studyin instead of blogging but sue has what is known as inertia or the inability to start..haha sue fell asleep reading soci tb last nite.boring! haha hope the rest of the sem of soci wont be that boring..sadly im taking soci alone..but met a new friend shu fen at lecture this tues ! haha sue is glad that the rest of the modules i have good friends taking with me..haha nette for sw2103 ,gab n daryl n daphne for ssa2102 ,pl2131 and pl2324 ( health psych)
so far sue feels that changing landscapes is the most interesting. haha and social work the most boring
but oh well sue's grades at the end of sem may be different.
sue is excited abt tmr's party.

haha i decided to be less emo and more happy in my blog posting..some cheering up to do to add a little shine! after all, its only 3 days more till i turn 20.haha

haha anyways, went out with claire bear today! had yummy soup spoon at raffles city then shopping! wow i saw this awesome tigger at kiddy palace ..haha so so cute! like me.and claire too!
yup claire is a super nice girl , my ex-cg mate and a really good friend! had an exciting time today with her! claire rocks my socks! ( claire,tag my board! ) haha anyways the day was cut short by an exciting thing ( yeah rite) called stats PL2131 lecture.gosh.its so..mathzzyy ..haha oh well at least i get to work with numbers for a change .graphs too!
went to ifg welcome tea with gab after lecture..haha he said that i went on the long long way to the engine bridge..which i unfortunately did.haha my lack of sense of direction? anyways we were debating whether to go or not...then we decided to go.haha but sorry for not gg back to e east with ya! lol cos a new exchange student i met at the welcome tea, dana, asked me to show her around PGP..lol ..yea its nice to make friends from a different culture..get to find out more abt how life is out of spore!
which reminds me..yay i am really glad that i got internal offer for exchange to UWA in 2009 for 1 sem..looking forward to rooming with estelle( haha don't worries, i am a good roomie) and of course experiencing edn system outside of spore..yeah i actually wanted to go aus to do my undergrad studies..but..oh well...i think God is calling me here for now.

funny how things work...when you are bored, you crave for something to do..then when you have alot of things to do,you say, "i wish i could just not do it all and slack." ..we never seem to be satisfied with what we have, what we are doing..and i think this is something i have to really get a hold of.

To be satisfied with what God has given me, to be grateful and not take for granted what I have..but in all things to Thank God ..

just came back from a nice run along ECP, and I have been thinking...I'm really looking forward to a new year of service in Powerhouse, in missions and in performing arts. Can't wait for missions trip this July to Blue Mt Kelong....and also for youth jams that is coming up on 9th Feb! also, as a mentor for the JC Cg led by janice. We do have a mixture of old and new members , I trust that God has put us together for a purpose..so for janice, sam, zhi hao, jeff, glenn , estelle and kay yun ...my prayer is that we would grow in faith in the Lord and in love for each other ! Looking forward for a great time of fellowship , bonding and learning....May the Lord continue to work in the lives of Powerhouse youths.
